George Friedman of the Austin-based security consultancy Stratfor appears in a new video to discuss the recent massive hack his firm endured. After discussing it with the FBI, he says, “the matter remains under active investigation.”

A news service in Australia has assembled this slick video explainer of the hyper-sophisticated computer virus known as Stuxnet. Experts believe the Stuxnet malware was unleashed by government-backed cyber warriors to undermine Iran’s nuclear ambitions by sabotaging plant operations that relied on computers. Western governments aren’t exactly rushing to take credit for Stuxnet, but clues point to the United States and Israel. As Wired’s Kim Zetter notes, Stuxnet was very selective in the havoc it created:

Embedded in Stuxnet’s code was a dossier detailing the specific technical configuration of the facility it sought. Any system that didn’t match precisely this configuration would go unharmed: Stuxnet would shut itself down and move on to the next system until it found its victim. It was clear to [industrial control expert Ralph] Langer that Stuxnet was the product of a well-resourced government with precise inside knowledge of the target it was seeking.
